About Me

A Photo Essay

Hello! My name’s Emmen, and I operate this blog. I am a student at the University of Georgia, majoring in Biomedical Physiology with a minor in English. I also love photography, so here is a bit about me, with some snapshots from my digital camera 🙂

I was born in Australia, but spent my entire life in the Southern United States raised under a Pakistani-American houshold. I am quite proud of my cultural identity; however, I know that there are a lot of misconceptions and unknowns about it. I hope to share some of my heritage with you all on this page!

This photo has been hanging up in my house my entire life. It is the tomb of my five times great-grandfather, Syed Imam Ali Shah Rehmatullah Aleh. He was a prominent Sufi Saint during the 1800s in South Asia. On his death anniversary, hundreds of people visit his tomb to pay their respects, regardless of which faith they are from. In Pakistan, many people also visit my maternal grandfather who continued to uphold his legacy. My grandfather was the epitome of a selfless person and many people looked up to him, including myself.

I love painting scenes from nature. I have always loved art; however, during the Covid-19 pandemic I really got into acrylic painting nature scenes. Since I have started college, I haven’t had much time to paint, but whenever I do, its certainly a pleasure!

In my life, I have had three fishes, all the same year, way back in 2010. The first one (showed in picture) was named Lucky, the second was named Ariel, and the last one was named Cindy. After a few months, my mom would get tired of each one of them and let them go in some random river. I remember the first time she did that, each time we drove past that river, I would call out, “Bye, Lucky!” thinking that he was still alive. Personally, I am more of a cat person.

One my other favorite things to do is read. Just like painting, I have fallen on a reading slump since I started college, but this year I decided to change that. If you have any book recs, send them my way! One of my favorite books is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I love the quote, “When you lie, you steal someone’s right to the truth.” This book is one of the few that made me shed tears.

I love spending time in nature and taking pictures as I go. There is a park near my house with a beautiful trail; once in a while, I’ll get lucky and spot deer, which is one of the most exciting things! One day, I would love to travel to the mountains and see a bear, elk, or moose.

Here’s throwback Canva post from when my friend and I started a garden at school. We grew tomatoes, peppers, and sweet potatoes. I find gardening to be quite rewarding. I miss it.

Finally, I take my digital camera with me everywhere I go. Here are a few pictures I took in the German Alpine Town of Helen, GA.

Thank you tuning in so far, and be on the lookout for upcoming posts! 🩷
